Bosque Unchog

High in the Carpish Mountains, this site is well-known for a number of elfin-forest endemics. Perhaps the best of these is the Golden-backed Mountain-Tanager, while the rest of the "big four" here are Bay-vented Cotinga, Pardusco and Rufous-browed Hemispingus. However, these birds can all be difficult, and it would be possible to miss all four even on a visit of a few days. There are other birds to see, including Undulated Antpitta, Large-footed Tapaculo, Red-rumped Bush-Tyrant and Ochraceous-breasted Flycatcher. Andean Snipes are common but elusive in the marsh near the pass. There is no accommodation nearby, so camping is necessary.
