This area, at the north end of Lake Titicaca, is an extensive network of marshes interspersed with occasional mountain tops rising out of the plains. The best bird to be found is the Short-winged Grebe, while other waterfowl include Red Shoveler, Puna Teal, Andean Avocet and White-backed Stilt. Chilean Flamingos are common, while an occasional Puna or Andean Flamingo can also be found at certain places. Andean Ibises and migrant Cinnamon-bellied Ground-Tyrant are among the birds on the flats, while Andean Hillstar, Short-billed Pipit and Band-tailed Sierra-Finch occur in the area on rocky slopes.
