Lake Junin

This fairly large lake in Peru's central highlands is excellent birding. The lake is home to the critically threatened Junin Grebe as well as most high Andean waterfowl such as Puna Teal, Chilean Flamingo, Yellow-billed Pintail and even Andean Avocet occasionally. The shores and surrounding grasslands are home to Correndera and Short-billed Pipits, Ornate Tinamou, Burrowing Owl and Black-breasted Hillstar among others.
