Lomas de Lachay

An hour and a half north of Lima on the coast, this desert oasis is home to a number of difficult birds including a few good endemics. An early start from Lima gives us a good chance for the two best ones - Cactus Canastero and Thick-billed Miner. The desolate landscape is also home to the local Greyish Miner and Black-chested Buzzard-Eagles are commonly seen. Two interesting shorebirds, Least Seedsnipe and Tawny-throated Dotterel, are fairly easily found especially in July-August when the lomas vegetation is most lush. Raimondi's Yellow-Finch, although erratic in occurrence, is probably more frequent here than anywhere else in its range.

Connecting Sites
This site is normally used as a first birding morning on a trip heading north out of Lima. It can also be used as a day trip from Lima which could also include the South Coast.
