Llanganuco

In the heart of the Cordillera Blanca, Peru's highest mountains, this area has some spectacular birding as well as scenery. The extensive Polylepis forest is home to Ash-breasted Tit-Tyrant and White-cheeked Cotinga, although these are rarely seen here. More realistic are Plain-tailed Warbling-Finch, Ancash Tapaculo and Striated Earthcreeper, while Tit-like Dacnis, Giant Conebill and Baron's Spinetail are among the more common birds of the area. Stripe-headed Antpitta can also be found. Slightly away from the mountains and to the north, the local race of Pale-tailed Canastero can be found.
