Cordillera Azul
A
stunning new species of Capito barbet, the
Scarlet-banded Barbet, has recently been described from
this remote part of Central Peru. We plan to mount an
expedition to the virtually untouched Cordillera Azul
National Park to see this species and a host of other
birds.

The
district of Cotabambas , is to the North of the Province
of Cotabambas, Dep. Of Apurimac (3350m). The main
activities of the local people are Agriculture and
Livestock. The access is by a road from Cusco to
Cotabambas, a 5 hours drive of 120 km.
The main festival that the local authorities organize
for their main celebrations is the: Turo Pucllay
(Playing with the Bulls, traditional, pure and unique
festival of Perú, as was described by our Peruvian
writer J. M. Arguedas); the Yawar Fiesta
(Condor riding on the back of the bull); and Corrida
de Toros (Bull Fitting).
